The Cold Lake Lafarge office and Hearts for Healthcare arranged to have the bushes torn out around the emergency room windows at the Cold Lake Healthcare Centre.
In their place, large decorative rocks went around the glass instead.
The rocks are meant to prevent vehicles from crashing through the windows and into the emergency waiting room, triage area and staff lounge.
“(It’s) in the interest of safety on the off chance that someone was to lose control of their vehicle,” said Catherine Garon, site manager of the Cold Lake Healthcare
Centre. “The rocks will act as barriers.”
Removing the bushes also prevents a possible fainting patient from slipping underneath them and going unnoticed by people passing by.
Garon said the project, carried out by Lafarge and organized by Hearts for Healthcare , will keep patients and staff safer.
